One of the biggest steam machines in the world - a blast furnace from 1899, next to the trails of dinosaurs.
The Museum on Nature and Technology in Starachowice is an exceptional place, due to the variety its collections and exhibitions. The most valuable element is the Great Furnace Complex from the early 19th C. and the beginning of the 20th C., it is also the best preserved complex of ironwork plants in Europe.
In the museum one can see an ancient ironwork settlement with bloomery furnaces, historic automobiles produced by the Starachowice factory, as well as, some fossilised dinosaur trails. Additionally, children and youth can attend museum lessons, divided into three thematic sections: “From a Blast Furnace to the Great Furnace,” “The Town of Star and Bofors” an “Down the Trail of the Świętokrzyskie Dinosaurs.” Moreover, in the area of the historic ironwork complex, various events take place, e.g. the most popular “The Iron Roots” and “The Fair at Starzech’s.”
The museum was established in 2001 by the Council of the Starachowice District. The patron of the institution is Prof. Jan Pazdur, who held an idea of presenting the 2-thousand history of iron production, which has finally come true in the area of Starachowice object.
